AATA Launches Book from the 13th AATA Annual Theological Forum

A book launch on the product of the 13th AIIAS African Theological Association (AATA) annual theological forum entitled “Health and Wholeness in Africa: A Biblical Foundation” was held on April 15, 2019 during chapel period at the AIIAS Amphitheater.

“The theme of the book is not only relevant for discussion but is a much needed resource in Africa today. We live in a world that is characterized by brokenness and compartmentalization. Africa is no exception… Thank you AATA for putting a book in our hands that addresses this crucial topic from a biblical perspective with experts from both health sciences and theology,” addressed Dr. Michael Sokupa, associate director at the Ellen G. White Estate of the Seventh-day Adventist Church world headquarters, in a video presented during the chapel program.

The book contains peer-reviewed and academically inclined essays honoring AIIAS President Dr. Stephen Guptill in celebration of his service to the AIIAS community. The book costs PHP 1,200 and a copy can be secured by sending an email to aata@aiias.edu.

“Primarily, the whole reason was to honor Dr. Guptill for his service here at AIIAS and we decided that this needed to be immortalized and the best way to immortalize this is to publish it,” remarked Mr. Sanned Lubani, president of AATA 2019.

Guptill shared several remarks about theology in the African context together with challenges of its people and the essentiality of biblical studies that address theological basis and methods of drawing the African nation to God.

“Theology is vital to our church—it provides understanding and inspiration. It guards us from the paths of thinking which wander away from truth and righteousness. it challenges us to the scripture imperative to find ways to claim the great saving work of our God and the great news that salvation has provided,” stated Guptill. “This volume will be a treasure not only to me but to those who love the way of truth and who love Africa. Congratulations to the AATA for this effort”.
