Life
Leonardo Nunes was born in Brazil in 1973 to Luiz and Lia Nunes (https://encyclopedia.adventist.org/article?id=AGM7&highlight=Luiz|Nunes). He grew up as a missionary kid who had the privilege to live in many places, including the Amazon area, and in the same house Leo and Jessie Halliwell built and lived.

Following his family’s path, Nunes started his ministry in 1996, being passionate for church planting, church growth, and evangelism, he worked as a church pastor in Brazil for 10 years. After concluding his master’s degree he was called to serve as a professor of the Latin American Adventist Theological Seminary, in which he served for 17 years, teaching in the New Testament area, also functioning as dean for 7 years and as seminary coordinator for 2 years. He has also worked as an adjunct professor for the SDA Theological Seminary at Andrews University since 2016.

Leonardo Nunes loves studying and talking about the Heavenly Sanctuary, Salvation,
and Mission, among many other subjects. This led him to write his Th.D. dissertation on the Heavenly Sanctuary in the NT and become a speaker and lecturer in many countries around the world. He is member of ATS, ETS and SBL. Nunes joined the AIIAS faculty in 2023.

Leonardo Nunes is married to Beverly Nunes, Ph.D. Candidate in Education
(Lusofona University of Portugal). They have two children, Larissa who works as a Global Mission Pioneer in Turkey, and Eduardo, who studies veterinary medicine in Brazil.

 

Recent/Upcoming Publications
Leonardo Nunes has published dozens of articles and book chapters in non-academic and academic venues in many countries, such as Discipleship in the Gospels for the Brazilian Adventist Review, and SDA Ethics on Biblical Interpretation, among many others. His Th.D. dissertation is about to be published (2023) by the Adventist Theological Society. As for now (2023), Nunes is working on two articles requested by the Biblical Research Institute. The first one is on the Heavenly Sanctuary in the NT for the DARCOM Series, and the second one is on the Holy Spirit’s role and personality as described in 1 Cor 2:11.
