Olaotse Obed Gabasiane has childhood experiences shared between Zimbabwe and Botswana. His early multicultural exposure expanded when he transferred from the University of Botswana to the UK to complete his Mining Engineering studies at the Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter. After a total of 5 years of field experience with the diamond mines of Botswana and the Botswana Government Mines and Explosives Inspectorate, Dr. Gabasiane responded to God’s call to pastoral ministry, which took him to Solusi College, an Andrews University (USA) off-campus to do his AB in Theology. Upon completion, he served as chaplain at the Kanye Adventist Hospital and College of Nursing, doubling up as a local church pastor; after which he served as a multi-departmental director in the Seventh-day Adventist Church for another 2 years in the South Botswana field. He then served as the president of the same institution for two terms. Meanwhile, he attained his MA in Pastoral Ministry degree at Solusi University, Zimbabwe. Eventually, he went with his family to Andrews University where he pursued his doctoral degree in Religion in the area of Intercultural Studies in Mission and Ministry. His cognate was Adventist Mission Studies. After completion, he served briefly as Director of Development and Public Affairs at the Kanye Adventist College of Nursing, then as executive secretary of the Botswana Union Conference soon after, doubling up as the Ministerial, Education, and Special Ministries director as well as the coordinator for the Ellen G. White Studies, Adventist Volunteer Service, and Adventist World Radio.
In 2018 Olaotse Obed Gabasiane joined the Applied Theology Department of the AIIAS Theological Seminary. He is married to Chandapiwa Betty and they are blessed with two teens, Itumeleng and Segofalang.
Recent/Upcoming Publications:
Dr. Gabasiane has presented on topics related to African religio-traditio culture and the Bible, cultural studies, relational care, leadership, and qualitative research. He is currently working on applied theology topics such as power encounter, issues framing the politics of Paul’s mission and ministry (for the 22nd Annual AIIAS Theological Forum), cultural leadership, and relational care as mission to urbans living with addiction. He is also the associate editor for the Journal of Asia Adventist Seminary.
