African scholars discussed topics about the current issues of church involvement in the political standpoint, wherein these topics could be seen as a danger or an opportunity depending on what motives are present and how politics is viewed.
“Dare to be a Daniel, dare to take a stand,” urged keynote speaker, Dr. Obert N. Mudzengi, President of North Zimbabwe Conference. “We may not be able to change the political system as a church, but we can stand against the political injustice,” he added.
The 12th annual forum of the AIIAS African Theological Association focused on The Adventist Church and National Politics/Governance in Africa. The African scholars gathered on April 20-22, 2017.
“I particularly appreciate the present theme for it leads us to make our religion relevant and to face head on some of the major issues confronting Africa and the world.” said Dolf Oberholster, AIIAS Vice President for Academic Administration.
A student from Uganda, Pastor Dan Namanya remarked, “The theme of the event was well addressed by the presentations in a sense that they all focused on the church and politics.”
“This was a very informative and exciting forum.” commented Pastor Henry Kanchanda, a student from Malawi.
The results of the meeting will be published in The Journal of AIIAS African Theological Association (JAATA).
