Héctor Martín was born in Venezuela on July 9, 1956. Since his conversion into the Seventh-day Adventist faith in 1978, he served the church as a part-time Bible worker. In 1994, he began formal theological studies at Seminario Teológico Adventista, Venezuela. After serving as pastor in Caracas, he was called to serve as a Bible teacher in Instituto Universitario Adventista de Venezuela in 1999. There he taught Bible courses to students from various backgrounds. In 2002, he began his MAEd program with emphasis in Higher Education from Universidad de Montemorelos, México. Soon after that, he was employed as a full-time professor at the his former institution where he later served as dean in 2004. He was ordained to the ministry that same year. In 2012, he earned his PhD in New Testament Studies degree from AIIAS. After his PhD studies, Dr. Martín went back to Venezuela and served as a full-time professor of New Testament for 7 years. In 2019, Dr. Martín joined the faculty of the AIIAS Theological Seminary as assistant professor of New Testament Studies. He is happily married to Bileidis Angélica. They have two sons and two grandsons.
He has published a number of academic book reviews for JAAS and the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL). He has also been involved as an editor in a variety of book publications and journals, such as Elena G. de White: Manteniendo Viva la Misión; Documentos del I Symposium Bíblico-Teológico (Ellen G. White: Keeping Alive the Mission; Documents of the I Biblical-Theological Symposium), 2015 and Principium Sapientiae: Journal of the Adventist Theological Seminary of Venezuela. He has also contributed to the Seventh-day Adventist International Biblical Theological Dictionary and given presentations, most recently “Martín Lutero y la Teología de la Cruz” (“Martin Luther and the Theology of the Cross”). Delivered on November 12 (2017) on occasion of the II Biblical-Theological Conference: “500 Years of Revival and Reformation,” at the Adventist University Institute of Venezuela.
His upcoming publications include the publication of his doctoral dissertation by Peter Lang and book sections for the Hispanic Adventist Center for Theological Dialogue (CHADT) of Andrews University.
